Our expedition to Labrador and Newfoundland is approaching. Preparation begins at different times for all of us but I’ve found the earlier you begin to prepare the better organized you and your gear will be. We’ve found it’s a good idea to make a list of items and their location so you can access what you need when you or someone else may need it. For example, I usually have various sized plastic or metal containers for the storage of various expedition or vehicle items. These include spares, lubricants, food and utensils etc.
Communications are critical and in many cases your cell phone will not work. At a minimum a CB is necessary to communicate during the trip. They are not expensive and a must have. We can suggest models and the appropriate antenna and tuning reqirements. I have a HAM license and use a dual band radio on the 2 meter and 70 centimeter bands. In most cases a single band 2 meter radio is great. There will be others on the trip who will use the HAM radio for communications along with a CB. These radios are more expensive although you can pick on up to about $150 not including the antenna and coax cable.
